OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma Art and Design: Graphic Design

OCR 600/6095/5

This course is a practical applied learning course.  Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on typical work place situations with a graphics focus. Students gain knowledge and understanding of materials, techniques and processes used within graphics.  Students also have the opportunity to extend and enrich their knowledge through gallery, workshop and exhibition visits.  Students on this course can expect to work within the various disciplines under the graphic design umbrella. They will explore the design process through practising key skills that are required of a designer such as research, drawing and sketching and idea realisation for both design for print and design for screen. Contextual/inks will be made between the students' own
work and that of other artists and designers.

We visit a range of exhibitions and design spaces during the course.

Our new state-of-the-art facilities allow our students to prosper.  The art design studio is filled with high-spec workstations with the latest industry standard software. We also use small and large format printers, a laser cutter, a tech room and finishing area, and a supplies cupboard stocked with various substrates for printing.

Across the two years students will complete a variety of projects that will contribute to six units of work.  There is no final examination.  All units are assessed and then a final grade will be awarded of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. The OCR Cambridge Technical is equivalent to 1 A Level and therefore can be taken alongside other awards and A/AS Levels.

Students who wish to specialise in Graphics can progress onto a full-time degree course in graphic design. Career opportunities include advertising, web design, editorial design, printing, motion design, games design, artwork, illustration, product design, architecture and many others.
