We have an excellent track record of A-level mathematics success at Southfields Academy. Over 50% achieving A*, A or B grades.
Students regularly go on to study at the UK’s top universities, including a student going on to Cambridge University after studying maths and further maths at Southfields from 2015-2017.
Mathematics A-level is split into 3 parts:
4/6 - pure maths (algebra, coordinate geometry, trigonometry etc.)
1/6 – statistics (probability, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing)
1/6 – mechanics (forces, kinematics, vectors, moments)
Mathematics A-level teaches students the fundamentals of higher level maths and teaches the ability to apply critical, logical thinking to complex problems.
Common University paths:
Mathematics, Engineering (all disciplines), Medicine, Economics, Physics and joint honours degrees combining Mathematics with other subjects such as Philosophy or Computing.
Common Careers:
Banking & finance, Accounting, Engineering, IT & many others.
On average maths university graduates earn more than any other subject.
